Firewood consumption was estimated at 2.7 million solid cubic meters per year, according to a study conducted by INFOR in La Araucanía Region. This reflects an emerging disconnection between firewood consumption and population growth

Regional firewood consumption increases more slowly than the number of houses. This can be explained by the gradual replacement of firewood by pellets and other fuels and a lower firewood consumption per house. This results from greater efficiency of heaters and changes in demographics and uses of houses.
